Liquid Lignin Company Scales Up Lignin Recovery with Compact, Ready-to-Ship SLRP Lignin Recovery System
New Bern, NC
October 9, 2025.
Liquid Lignin Company has announced the development of a continuous, commercial-scale Sequential Lignin Recovery Process (SLRP) system that can be fabricated as a skid-mounted unit. This modular design offers a compact, flexible, and easily deployable solution for commercial-scale lignin recovery.
With a cost of $4.5 million the skid-mounted SLRP system is capable of producing 10 metric tons (Te) of lignin per day. The skid-mounted system will be ready to ship within 12 months from their manufacturing facility in Georgetown, South Carolina.
With a small 20-by-40-foot footprint, the SLRP unit can be installed close to existing black liquor evaporators, reducing infrastructure needs and simplifying integration into mill operations.
Looking ahead, Liquid Lignin Company projects that a commercial-scale SLRP system producing 50,000 Te per year of lignin—approximately fifteen times larger than the demonstration unit—would require a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of $30 million, including site preparation and tie-ins. The operating cost (OPEX), including the cost of capital, is projected to be under $250 per ton of lignin.
The SLRP technology is patented in all major kraft wood pulp–producing countries (U.S. Patent No. 11,866,456), underscoring its innovation, efficiency, and scalability for the global pulp and bioproducts industry.
